Is registration of the RAYEX S required by local authorities?
This article explains whether the RAYEX® S measuring system must be registered with local authorities and who is responsible for compliance with local regulations.
Regulatory responsibility
The RAYEX® S is an industrial measuring system that uses X-ray radiation. As a result, its installation and operation may be subject to local, national, or regional radiation safety regulations.
Whether registration is required depends entirely on the laws and regulations of the country or region where the system is installed.
Zumbach cannot determine registration requirements on behalf of the customer. Responsibility for regulatory compliance lies with the owner and operator of the system.
When is registration required?
In many countries, X-ray equipment must be:
-
Registered, or
-
Reported, or
-
Approved
by local authorities responsible for radiation safety or occupational health.
Registration may be required:
-
Before commissioning the system
-
When installing the system at a new location
-
After relocation of the measuring unit
-
After major modifications to the system
Local authorities may also impose requirements regarding inspections, documentation, or radiation measurements.
Customer responsibility
It is the responsibility of the customer or system owner to:
-
Check applicable local radiation protection laws
-
Determine whether registration or notification is required
-
Ensure compliance before operating the RAYEX® S
-
Maintain any required documentation or certificates
Failure to comply with local regulations may result in legal consequences or restrictions on system operation.
Support from Zumbach
Zumbach designs the RAYEX® S to comply with applicable international safety standards and ensures that radiation levels remain within permitted limits when used correctly.
However:
-
Zumbach does not register the system on behalf of the customer
-
Zumbach does not replace the obligation to comply with local laws
If required, Zumbach or its local subsidiaries can provide technical information to support regulatory discussions with local authorities.
