What uses are explicitly prohibited for the RAYEX® S 50/110?
This article explains which uses of the RAYEX® S measuring system are explicitly prohibited according to the instruction manual and may lead to safety risks or incorrect operation.
General principle
The RAYEX® S is an industrial X-ray measuring system designed exclusively for a specific, defined purpose. Any use outside this intended scope is considered prohibited.
Using the system in a prohibited way can:
-
Create serious safety hazards
-
Lead to incorrect measurement results
-
Violate radiation safety regulations
-
Void warranty and liability claims

Prohibited uses of the RAYEX S
The following uses are explicitly prohibited:
Measuring living beings
-
The RAYEX® S must never be used to measure humans or animals.
-
Any application involving living beings is strictly forbidden due to radiation exposure risks.

Use outside industrial production
-
The system must not be used for laboratory, medical, or research purposes.
-
Offline or stationary sample measurement is not permitted.
The RAYEX® S is designed only for inline measurement during continuous production.
Measuring unsuitable products
The RAYEX® S must not be used to measure:
-
Products with a non-round cross-section
-
Products made of high X-ray absorption materials such as copper or steel
-
Products that do not match the configured measurement parameters
Such use may result in invalid measurement values.
Measuring wet or partially wet products
-
Measuring wet, damp, or partially wet products is prohibited.
-
Moisture can affect X-ray absorption and compromise measurement accuracy.

Operation without safety components
The RAYEX® S must not be operated:
-
Without protective covers or protective tubes
-
With damaged housings or safety components
-
If safety circuits or emergency shut-off devices are bypassed or non-functional
Operating the system in this condition is strictly prohibited.
Unauthorized modifications or repairs
The following actions are prohibited:
-
Modifying the system without approval from Zumbach
-
Bypassing or altering safety systems
-
Opening X-ray sources
-
Repairing internal components not listed as user-replaceable
All unauthorized modifications may lead to unsafe operation.
Use by unauthorized personnel
-
The system must not be installed, operated, maintained, or repaired by untrained or unauthorized personnel.
-
Access must be restricted to trained operators, qualified electricians, and authorized service personnel only.

Use in unsuitable environments
The RAYEX® S must not be used:
-
Outside the specified ambient temperature limits
-
In environments with excessive dust, moisture, or aggressive chemicals without proper protection
-
Without sufficient free space for cooling
Using the system in unsuitable environments can lead to system failure or safety risks.
